Brushing & Flossing

The key to your oral health routine.

Research suggests that eating and drinking during meals increases the exposure of acid to your tooth enamel. Plus, brushing immediately after eating dramatically increases the risk of abrasive erosion.

To help reduce the risk of acid erosion it is advised to drink or rinse with natural mineral water after consuming acidic food or drink having brushed the teeth with a Fluoride toothpaste, such as BioMin™ F, thirty minutes prior to eating.

Taking this into account, BioMin Technologies has produced a step by step guide ito improve your dental routine. It may be that you have not been brushing and flossing correctly!

Brushing your teeth with BioMin™ toothpaste

We suggest brushing BEFORE breakfast and last thing at night for at least two minutes to help remove food particles and dental plaque that can lead to gum disease and tooth decay. 

Additionally flossing or using interdental brushes daily can help remove food and plaque between the teeth which cannot be reached with your toothbrush.

  • With a soft to medium toothbrush apply a 1cm long bead of BioMin™ toothpaste to your toothbrush.
  • Place your toothbrush on the outer surfaces of your teeth, tilting the brush at a 45° angle against the gum line. Using short and gentle brush strokes, in a vertical up-and-down action, pushing the bristles away from the gum line.
  • Clean the outer surfaces of your upper and lower teeth, then the inner surfaces, and finally across the chewing surfaces of all your teeth.
  • Be sure to pay extra attention to any hard-to-reach areas.
  • For a fresher mouth, brush your tongue at least once a day too.
  • After two minutes of brushing, swirl the foamy toothpaste around your mouth for 30 seconds (like a mouthwash), and spit out the excess into the sink.
  • Avoid rinsing your mouth out with water!

Rinsing directly after brushing washes away the active ingredients of the toothpaste often before they have had a chance to work.

Don’t drink anything acidic for at least 30 minutes after brushing otherwise it’ll undo much of your good work!

Flossing or alternatively use of interdental brushes

The addition of flossing or use of interdental brushes to your daily routine could help remove further food debris or plaque trapped between the teeth.

After brushing with a BioMin™ toothpaste we suggest using the following flossing technique;

  • Pull approx. 45cm of dental floss from the floss dispenser
  • Wrap either ends of the floss around your index and middle fingers and hold the floss tightly.
  • Place the floss in-between each tooth one at a time and move the floss back and forth up and down and in a push-pull motion.
  • Once you have flossed between and around all your teeth dispose of the floss.
  • If you use interdental brushes, ensure the correct sizes are selected for the interdental spaces as recommended by the manufacturer.
