A professional wine taster is successfully using BioMin F to resolve her excruciating dentine hypersensitivity.

Jane*, a professional wine taster who spends many months each year traveling the world sampling wines, developed extreme sensitivity to hot and cold drinks and food – and found visits to the dentist and hygienist unbearably painful.

On the advice of her hygienist, about two years ago Jane tried brushing with BioMin F and was amazed at the results. ‘BioMin F is brilliant,’ she said. ‘My sensitivity has pretty much cleared up completely and I no longer dread going to the dentist. It really works.’

Additionally, Jane’s teeth used to develop a large amount of calculus (tartar) between each visit and this too has almost completely stopped. Her friends have noticed that her teeth actually look whiter and less translucent. ‘I think they feel cleaner too,’ she said.

Dentine sensitivity is quite common among people who taste wines or spirits extensively. Jane’s job means that for a few months at a time she is sampling large amounts of wine daily so that her teeth are almost constantly in contact with it. It’s thought that the acidity of the wine has gradually demineralised her tooth enamel, exposing the sensitive dentine surface below and causing the pain.

BioMin F works in a different way from other ‘sensitive’ brands of toothpaste. It has a biomimetic action, dissolving slowly on the tooth surface over several hours to lay down fluorapatite, mimicking the natural creation of tooth mineral. The fluorapatite is deposited within the tiny dentinal tubules, plugging them and preventing the fluid flow that causes dentine hypersensitivity.

Particularly useful for someone like Jane, whose teeth are continually exposed to acid in the course of her work, BioMin F starts to dissolve and deposit fluorapatite even more quickly in the presence of acid, so that the protective effect is enhanced.
