BioMin is an award winning, unique patented technology developed from decades of research at a world leading university, Queen Mary University of London. It has 3 main attributes that make us the leading experts in sensitivity relief:
- Long lasting benefits with slow-release fluoride: Our toothpaste is uniquely engineered to slowly release low level fluoride along with the optimal concentration of calcium and phosphate mineral ions. This forms fluorapatite, which provides superior, long lasting protection for up to 12 hours.
- Advanced protection with extra fine particles: Revolutionary bioactive material made with extra fine particles that bond to the tooth, penetrate and block any exposed pathways to the nerves, delivering superior protection against sensitivity while strengthening and protecting the tooth enamel.
- Clinically proven with smart pH technology: Backed by scientists, our smart technology provides constant protection as it reacts quickly to food and drink. This neutralises oral pH and enhances the way saliva replaces lost mineral on the tooth surfaces helping combat the causes of sensitive teeth.
Nano-Hydroxyapatite (HAP) has been around for a number of years most recently sold on its fluoride free benefits. It works by acting as an inert block to acids, so when under acid attack from food or drink, the HAP dissolves in preference to your enamel. But beware as all HAP toothpastes vary with the HAP concentration. This needs to be at a high concentration to have any effect. Also, the other ingredients in the toothpaste can often react with the HAP in the tube and so many are ineffective in providing any protection above a regular toothpaste. BioMin works differently to provide a slow release of ions that create a higher level of clinically proven protection. The stronger the acid attack the quicker the release of ions and so the faster the it gets to work. BioMin F contains low levels of fluoride that form fluorapatite which dissolves at a pH of <4.0, HAP at a pH of 5.0, so is much more acid resistant. If you have concerns about using a fluoride toothpaste then we have also created BioMin C, our fluoride free alternative. Either option provides earlier and smarter all round protection for up to 12 hours.
RDA or Relative Dentine Abrasivity is a testing method adopted by the American National Standards Institute that measures how coarse and abrasive the particles are in a toothpaste. The coarser the particles, the greater the abrasion and wear there is to the tooth surface, a major cause of sensitivity. BioMin F is classed as a low abrasive toothpaste, with an RDA value of 68. It is essential for a sensitivity toothpaste to have low abrasion (below 70) to avoid any potential loss of the tooth surface.
Yes it is; we have a specialist toothpaste for children within our range, BioMin F for Kids in a child friendly strawberry flavour. BioMin F’s lower level of fluoride is well within the recommendations for children and contains the same levels of active ingredients as the mint flavoured BioMin F. BioMin F for Kids fruity flavour and colourful graphics aim to make early brushing more fun and is suggested for children aged 3 years and up. Children above the age of six can continue to use BioMin F for Kids or transition onto BioMin F.
Although clinical studies do not include pregnant women, there is clinical evidence of the safety and effectiveness of BioMin F toothpaste and as such it is safe to use during pregnancy. In fact, the added benefits of BioMin’s slow-release protection are well suited to the snacking and grazing eating habits that are often advised during pregnancy. Furthermore, BioMin products continuously defend against acid attack which can be caused by regular consumption of sugary or acidic foods, as well as vomiting, if you suffer from morning sickness.
Our products are 100% vegan and halal friendly. No animal derived products are contained in BioMin, and no animal testing has been used in its development. We’re proud to say all our products are cruelty free.
Our unique technology has a therapeutic benefit that has been tested to the highest standards by independent regulators. As such we are an approved class IIb Medical Device under ISO 13485.
The main difference between a medical device and a cosmetic product is the product's intended use:
Cosmetic Product:
A substance or mixture intended to be applied to the body to clean, change appearance, protect, or maintain good condition.
Medical Device:
A product used to diagnose, prevent, monitor, treat, or alleviate a medical condition by interacting with the body.
As a medical device, our toothpastes require a higher level of testing and scrutiny, and ensures that we can live up to the claims we make on pack and in our advertising, ensuring our customers get a safe, high-quality product that they can trust.
Ideally no. BioMin needs time to bond to the tooth surface for maximum effect. You gain most benefit if that contact time is maximised and rinsing with water only reduces this time frame and dilutes the concentration. The most effective time to use BioMin is at night, as you produce less saliva when you’re asleep so the concentrated effects of BioMin stay in your mouth for longer and provide a greater therapeutic benefit.
BioMin F toothpaste is a multi-functional product and provides the beneficial qualities of a toothpaste for the whole family, not just those suffering with sensitive teeth. It also works to strengthen and protect the tooth structure and provides advanced protection against acid attack for up to 12 hours after brushing. There are BioMin products designed for all ages.
Each ingredient in our toothpaste serves a purpose to improve the oral health of our customers and deliver the best possible product. SLS (Sodium Laurel Sulphate) is a surfactant or foaming agent that has been used for many years primarily in soaps and detergents where it has gained a reputation when in prolonged contact with the skin. It has also been used in toothpastes for many years where contact time with the skin and dilution rates are very different. SLS is important as it acts as a foaming agent that delivers the toothpaste's active ingredients onto all surfaces of the tooth, helps remove food debris and plaque and ensures the fluoride makes contact with your teeth. This enables complete protection and efficacy.
Please rest assured that our ingredients are strictly controlled to ensure that our products are absolutely safe to use but also that any benefits outweigh the potential side effects and while we appreciate that SLS is an ingredient that causes issues for some consumers we currently do not have any immediate plans to remove this from our formulation. We are conducting research and development as an ongoing part of a continual review process, and endeavour to make improvements to our products wherever possible.
BioMin does not make any claims in relation to tooth whitening, although in independent studies the light refractive properties of the active ingredient have been shown to improve tooth brightness and sheen. Many dental professionals do however recommend BioMin as part of their whitening treatment protocol as it can provide additional protection to the tooth surface. Whitening treatments use strong peroxide agents that can debride the surface later of the tooth which is important to remove any stain, but can leave the tooth exposed and open pathways to the nerves leading to sensitivity. The finer particles in BioMin penetrate and block these pathways and help rebuild the covering layer that protects the enamel so delivering protection from sensitivity and superior enamel protection after whitening treatment.

Our active ingredient is actually a type of silica or glass, but not the same as used in your windows, this is a type of bioactive glass developed specifically for use in medicine and designed to dissolve in the body fluids. It bonds to the tooth surface and slowly dissolves into the saliva over 12 hours to deliver a continuous and optimised blend of calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions that neutralise oral pH as well as strengthen and protect the tooth enamel through the production of fluorapatite. These glasses are highly biocompatible and the particles are very small (one tenth of the width of a human hair), and as such they can penetrate the minute holes (tubules) within the tooth and therefore prevent the salivary dilution that makes other toothpastes ineffective after only a couple of hours.
