Announcing VOCO's new Profluorid Varnish incorporating BioMin® Technology

BioMin®, the innovative bioactive glass technology developed by Professor Robert Hill and his team at Queen Mary University of London, is now featured in a groundbreaking new dental varnish through a partnership with VOCO, a global leader in professional dental materials.

This collaboration has resulted in VOCO Profluorid Varnish + BioMin, a significant advancement in dental care. By combining VOCO’s best-selling Profluorid Varnish with BioMin’s unique slow-mineral release technology, the new formula enhances remineralisation and provides long-lasting desensitisation.

“Our partnership with VOCO is truly exciting. Collaborating with an industry leader allows us to bring this innovative product to market, powered by BioMin technology. Our goal is to expand access to BioMin’s bioactive glass technology, benefiting consumers worldwide, and this partnership is a significant step toward achieving that vision."

Significantly Hardens Weakened Enamel

The invisible and flavourless bioglass is already used with great success in other prophylaxis products, such as toothpaste. However, it is being used in a fluoride varnish for the first time. BioMin's bioglass dissolves in the presence of saliva, releases calcium and phosphate ions and thus supports the remineralisation of the tooth. In combination with the fluoride from the varnish, crystalline structures form on the tooth surface, which significantly harden, for example, acid-weakened enamel. VOCO Profluorid Varnish + BioMin thus offers patients double protection: in addition to the crystalline protective layer described above, the properties of VOCO Profluorid Varnish + BioMin also include comprehensive and long-lasting desensitisation of sensitive teeth, thanks to the fluoride it contains.

Sensitivity

VOCO Profluorid Varnish + BioMin contains 5% sodium fluoride (22,600 ppm fluoride), delivering the same high level of effectiveness as the original Profluorid Varnish, now enhanced with the remineralising and desensitising power of BioMin Technology. Research from Queen Mary University of London confirms that this advanced formula effectively seals the majority of open dentinal tubules, providing long-lasting protection while strengthening enamel, and reducing symptoms of dentine hypersensitivity.

Advantages:

  • Significantly hardens weakened enamel
  • Reliable desensitisation thanks to 5 % NaF (≙ 22,600 ppm fluoride)
  • Aesthetic, tooth-coloured varnish
  • Available in four flavours: mint, cherry, caramel and bubble gum
  • Ideal for treating cervical areas after professional cleaning and calculus removal
  • Can also be used for MIH patients
  • Applied in a thin layer and thus economical

Indications:

  • Treatment of hypersensitive teeth
  • Treatment of sensitive root surfaces
  • Promotion of remineralisation
