What's the difference between BioMin® F and BioMin® C?
In a world where patients have a range of preferences and requirements, BioMin® is here to make things simple: BioMin® F or BioMin® C!
This is your simple guide to understanding what the differences are between the two, and which to recommend to patients to ensure you’re meeting their unique needs.
Spot the Difference
BioMin® F and BioMin® C both stem from the same family of bioactive glass materials, designed to bond to the enamel and replenish lost apatite minerals that are dissolved from tooth surfaces every day. So, what are the differences between them? And how do they each work to protect patients’ teeth?
BioMin® F
In addition to calcium and phosphate, BioMin® F contains fluoride within its bioactive glass. As the glass dissolves in the saliva, these ions combine to form fluorapatite, which is deposited onto the surface of the teeth and within any exposed dentinal tubules. When compared to hydroxyapatite (found in natural tooth enamel), fluorapatite is more resistant to acid attack by a factor of 10. This makes BioMin® F a valuable part of your patients’ oral hygiene routines, providing an effective and long-lasting solution to sensitivity and protection against tooth decay.
BioMin® F delivers a continuous supply of low level fluoride for up to 12 hours after brushing. The saliva slowly dissolves the bioactive glass at varying rates in response to pH changes in the mouth, enabling the 530ppm fluoride to be released in a controlled manner throughout the day.
BioMin® C
In the BioMin® C bioactive glass formula, a chloride ion is used, rather than fluoride. When compared to BioMin® F, BioMin® C is more reactive, and develops apatite more rapidly. However, it produces hydroxyapatite instead of fluorapatite, meaning that it does not provide the same level of enhanced acid resistance.
This being said, BioMin® C is still an effective choice of toothpaste for patients who prefer to go with a fluoride-free option. You can rest assured that your patients are receiving the oral care they need and a comprehensive solution for sensitivity prevention and protection against tooth decay.
Confidence in their protection
Meeting the needs and preferences of patients in modern dental practice can be challenging. However, offering a toothpaste that responds to their individual needs provides a recommendation they can rely on. Whether they choose low-level fluoride or prefer a fluoride-free alternative, BioMin® gives both you and your patients complete confidence in their at-home oral care.
