Method

A total of 160 patients clinically diagnosed with dentine hypersensitivity were randomly divided into four groups:

Group A - 5% potassium nitrate

Group A

5% potassium nitrate
Group B - 5% fluorocalcium phosphosilicate (BioMin® F)

Group B

5% fluorocalcium phosphosilicate (BioMin® F)
Group C - 10% strontium chloride toothpaste

Group C

10% strontium chloride
Group B - Herbal formulation toothpaste in circle

Group D

Herbal formulation

The patients’ dentine hypersensitivity scores for tactile, thermal, and evaporative stimuli were recorded on a visual analog scale at baseline, 2 weeks, 1 month, and 2 months. Sensitivity was measured using a cold blast spray and cold air spray to stimulate effect.

Conclusion

BioMin® F resulted in more improvement than other toothpastes offering long lasting relief and protection from dentine hypersensitivity in the following four steps:

  1. Chemical bonding: its particles chemically bind to the tooth surface.
  2. Release of minerals: components slowly dissolve to release calcium, phosphate and fluoride ions into saliva.
  3. Rapid apatite formation: formation of fluorohydroxyapatite, highly acid resistant crystals, providing deep occlusion within dentinal tubules.
