About Us
At Biomin Technologies Limited, we are pioneers in the development of advanced dental materials, dedicated to transforming oral health through science-led innovation. Originating from Queen Mary University of London, our company bridges the gap between academic discovery and real-world dental care solutions.
Our Vision
To become the global leader in the development of bioglass science and how those technologies are applied across dentistry, setting new standards in advanced preventive and restorative oral care.

Our Story
BioMin was founded to commercialise the research of Professor Robert Hill, a leading expert in bioglass development and its dental applications.
Our initial patents were filed in 2011 which innovatively incorporated the use of fluoride in a bioactive glass for oral healthcare, with subsequent patents granted in 2013 and 2021. Our products advance the level of protection against sensitivity and help remineralise the tooth surface.
Clinical trials have shown BioMin® F to be more effective at reducing dentine hypersensitivity than the market brand leaders Sensodyne Repair & Protect and Colgate Sensitivity Pro-Relief.
To date BioMin® toothpaste products are available in over 40 countries around the world, with significant business in the UK, Europe and Australia with a launch planned in the US. BioMin is also available as an ingredient for private label toothpaste manufacturers and through our partners we have developing businesses in India, South Africa and South America. There are also other applications either on the market or under development for use in Dental Varnishes, Adhesives and Composites.
Julian Beare, (Chairman) has been a director of the company since inception and has been Chairman since 2019. His background is in management and finance.
Alec Hilton, (CEO) joined the company early in 2022, and has over 20 years experience in sales and marketing across the oral health industry.
Robert Hill, (CSO) founder of Biomin Technologies Limited and Chief Scientific Officer; Emeritus Professor of Physical Sciences in Relation to Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. Robert has published over 250 refereed papers and filed more than 20 patents. He is particularly known for his expertise in Bioactive Glasses and has supervised over 50 Ph.D students.

Smart technology reacts to changes in oral pH triggered by sugary and acidic food and drink. It quickly releases mineral ions to neutralise acidity that could otherwise lead to decay and cause pain and sensitivity.
What Causes Sensitivity?
The pain of sensitive teeth occurs when the tooth’s nerve is exposed to triggers such as hot or cold foods.
The enamel on the surface of our teeth typically serves as a protective barrier, preventing nerve exposure. However, enamel can wear away due to damage, decay, or demineralization caused by acidic and sugary foods.
When this happens, tiny pathways called tubules, located in the inner tooth structure, are exposed. This exposure allows fluid to move through these pathways to the nerve, causing a painful sensation.
Most sensitivity toothpastes on the market offer a solution that protects the surface of the tooth, but is often quickly washed away.
